So, even though we had a little set back, we still need to keep working on other projects. The number one priority being our closet. With us living out of suitcases at my parents house and boxes at the farmhouse, this especially needs to get finished so we can clear the mudroom of our clothes boxes. Kitchen and bathroom boxes will need to be housed where all of our wardrobe boxes are currently.
Ryan sanded down the walls, I used the shop vac to clean up all the dust and got the walls ready to paint, and the walls have been primed and painted. We hung wire shelving and I ordered 2 skinny dressers that would fit into the closet. So, we now have a FINISHED closet, with clothes and all, neatly organized!!! Even though I don’t have a kitchen at the moment, I feel more at peace and less stressed now that we have the closet finished.
Ryan hung a new fan/light in our room. Super excited about this, as it does get kind of stuffy upstairs overnight.
The TV that was sitting on top of the dresser (which is my son’s), is now hanging on the wall. Since we have a wireless cable box, the box and wires are all in our closet, so we have a nice clean finish. All that is left to do in our room is build the other night stand and decorate, which I can figure out as we go!
Ryan opened up the floor to expose the plumbing for the contractor to start fixing and updating the plumbing in the bathroom. We are going to replace all the plumbing in the bathroom, which includes the toilet, bathtub/shower, and sink plumbing. It’s going to be a little bit of a bigger expense, but we will have peace of mind knowing that everything is updated.
We finished taking down the last 3 cabinets in the kitchen, and screws left from the drywall that fell from the ceiling. When removing the cabinets, we discovered an old storage space under the stairs.
We met with the contractor, and to save some money we are doing all the demo ourselves. He is having us remove all the plaster and lath boards from the ceiling, and 3 of the walls. This will make it easier to run electrical, since of course this is not to code, and we do not have any GFIs. Ryan and my brother in law, Aaron, had a blast removing all of this. Ha, it looked far from fun, and both are extremely exhausted and sore. However, it sure is one way to get your anger and aggression out.
Here is our kitchen, with all walls and ceiling opened up to the studs.
We got a mock up of our kitchen cabinet layout, we picked out gray cabinets and a farmhouse sink. We are doing open shelving on either side of the window, to give the kitchen a more open look. Can’t wait to see this all come together! We meet with our contractor early this week to finalize everything, and repairs and work should start this week.
Hopefully next time I update, we will have new plumbing and running water. Oh the small things in life. : )
